About
In recent years schools across the nation have suffered through budget cuts and offering classes such as Home Economics, once a staple. Several reports point to this being at least a partial cause of obesity problems in our children today. Dropping grades and other educational and behavioral problems have been linked to a lack of healthy eating choices. Being part of the CCI network to offer classes can be part of the solution, and glad to see the movement to educate our children is growing in the southwest valley of Arizona.
Perhaps the most obvious benefit of a cooking class geared toward our youth is they actually learn HOW to cook, but on top of this they’ll learn so much more. Cooking with children involves so many skills, most of them beneficial to multiple aspects of their everyday lives. |
As a new homeschooling parent, I found a variety of classes offered in the east valley but did not want to make the commute, especially with the high gas prices these days! So Freckles & Friends partnered with the Children's Culinary Institute to bring fun and structured cooking lessons to the southwest valley of Arizona to include Avondale, Litchfield, Goodyear, and Buckeye. With my years of experience in the education field, parks and recreation, and family programming these classes pair well with fun, learning and of course eating. We can't wait to get cooking!
